The accent English-as-a-foreign-language teaching outside the Americas has historically been built on. Non-rhotic, so 'car' ends on a long vowel and 'here' on a centring diphthong. It keeps the two southern-English splits: TRAP and BATH are different vowels, so 'bath' does not rhyme with 'math'; FOOT and STRUT are different vowels, so 'put' and 'putt' are different words. It merges NORTH with FORCE, so 'horse' and 'hoarse' are the same, and CLOTH with LOT. happY is given as tense [i] here, which is the modern description; conservative RP has lax [ɪ], and this is one of the changes that separates recordings from the 1950s from speakers now.
