Recife Portuguese keeps its open/close mid vowels crisp rather than reducing them, and several Nordestino subvarieties documentedly lack (or strongly weaken) the /t d/-palatalization that defines Rio/São Paulo speech -- a real point of internal Nordestino variation, not a uniform rule across the whole Northeast.
